The Work
The Chicago Anti Eviction Campaign works on rehabbing homes, creating low income affordable housing and transitional housing, creating an affordable homeownership program, helped create and is part of a Community Land Trust and is an advocate for on the job training for those who are facing underemployment or unemployment to help build and develop new skill sets.
The Campaign executes these initiatives through the Hood for Humanity program, in which housing and education issues are addressed through buying foreclosed homes, rehabbing these homes, and putting them back into the market through purchase and creating low income affordable housing for rent. This program addresses housing in the community through promoting affordable homeownership, creating an affordable low income rental market, and fostering neighborly blocks by moving families into vacant homes. Hood for Humanity also addresses the need for transitional housing to support re-entry programs for ex-offenders and women fleeing domestic violence. The Campaign partners with other organizations to help people stabilize themselves through housing, while also providing physical health resources, mental health counseling, and job training. Furthermore, the Campaign looks to take this resource for men and women further through leveraging their existing properties, and making these a stable permanent housing solution for men and women trying to rebuild.
As an advocate for on the job training, the Campaign works with licensed tradesmen to work alongside those who face underemployment and unemployment looking to develop new skill sets.
