In Loving Memory of Jonathan “JB” McIntosh
On October 20, 2021 we lost a beloved member of our family and a proud member of the Chicago Anti Eviction Campaign. Jonathan “JB” McIntosh was tragically taken from our lives, suddenly and unexpectedly, shattering the hearts and lives of everyone who knew him. Jonathan was murdered. He was killed by an act of gun violence that also killed a part of everyone who loved him. He was not just a member of the Campaign, but a father, a son, a brother, an uncle, a nephew, and friend. Jonathan is the first born child of Willie “JR” Fleming, Executive Director of the Campaign and he fiercely, loyally, and lovingly followed his father, He inherited his father’s heart to help and serve people with compassion, empathy, and love- a legacy worth living for.
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we share this news but it is also in a spirit of love and appreciation for the short time we were given with him. Jonathan was born before the Campaign but grew up in it and with it. During the CAEC’s housing takeover campaigns, Jonathan learned construction skills that he would apply in the Hood for Humanity program which he regularly volunteered for. In marches, actions, meetings, takeovers, lobbying, rehab and construction, his heart, soul, labor, and sweat are forever a part of the organization and everything that has been given life through it.
We miss the joy he brought, his laughter, his playfulness, his smile, his everything. Please keep the CAEC lifted in your thoughts and prayers as we grieve the loss of our beloved.
Thank you, Jonathan for blessing us with your life. We see the work you did and are so proud of you for all of it. We love you always and forever into eternity. We’ll keep making you proud.
